elisa alaluusua

Elisa Alaluusua originates from Finnish Lapland and has been exhibiting internationally since the early 1990s. Her first degree was in drawing in 1991. She holds two MAs and has completed practice-based PhD researching Sketchbooks. Alaluusua has had solo exhibitions in Finland, England and US. Alaluusua lives and works in London; and regularly visits the reindeer farm where she grew up in Lapland.

Alaluusua works in the field of drawing and there are two strands in her practice. She woks on paper, often with graphite, and has been using video from the early 1990s, since the days of linear editing. Linearity and time-based principles are reoccurring elements in her work. Alaluusua sees the process of working on paper closely related to her video works because the procedure is the same, as she explains:
